Union is proud to have an active group of citizens that continually work for the betterment of their community. Union is proud to be 1 of 3 communities selected to participate in the Nebraska Community Improvement Program (NCIP) Leadership Development Challenge offered through the NDED.
The NCIP Leadership Development Challenge offers curriculum to help communities build on their current leadership and volunteerism levels. Materials include a community-based leadership module; a community analysis/planning module; case studies focused on economic development, housing, health, education, and government; and a capstone project for each community that's submitted to DED and evaluated for potential implementation funding.
Another example of the proactive efforts of Union's citizens is the endeavor to erect a new playground. Although Union currently has a ball field, a covered pavillion and two playgrounds, the park board discovered there was a need for a new playground. The goal is to provide residents with a modern play structure as well as a basketball court in an area that is centrally located and currently underutilized.
