In the late 1800’s Missouri Pacific Railroad laid a rail line from Nebraska City to Lincoln, as well as a line northward to Omaha. It was this junction, or “union” of the two rail lines, that gave our town its name. In 1892, the Cass County Commissioners approved the organization of the Village of Union. The location and easy access proved to be an asset, and Union became a busy shipping point and the home of many thriving businesses.

Today, Union’s location at the junction, or “union,” of two main highways has proven to be an asset as well.  Union is conveniently located at the intersection of Hwy 34 and Hwy 75.  Only 30 minutes from the metropolises of Omaha or Lincoln, many young families are choosing Union as their new residence.  Additionally, the business districts and attractions of Nebraska City and Plattsmouth are only minutes away in either direction, truly making Union centrally located.

Union has recently joined the “Cass County Going Green” project to provide recycling and other environmentally conscious options for residents.   Union provides residents with extremely high quality water and an updated sewer system.  Cable service and high-speed internet are also available.  Nearby cell phone towers provide for excellent cell phone reception.

Union United is a 501(c)(3) non-profit community improvement group which consists of a group of concerned individuals that are  “pulling together” to improve and revitalize Union.  Our mission is to solidify the future of Union by restoring a sense of community and providing a place where residents are proud to call home.

Union United is currently participating in the Leadership Development Challenge through the Nebraska Community Improvement Project.  Our capstone project is the beautification of the open space / park in Union, including in part, the construction of a gazebo and the planting/maintaining of large maturing trees.  Everyone is welcome and encouraged to help (planning, planting & building, fundraising, donating, etc.).
