Union Receives the Most Total Snowfall

in the Region!

Many Nebraskans, as well as northern Kansans, saw moderate to heavy snow and windy conditions on Tuesday.  These blustery conditions were caused by a strong low pressure system the moved through the Central Plains. However, no one saw as much snow as we did here in Union!

Here is a list of some of the snowfall totals courtesy of 10/11 Weather:

The Union UMC is participating in an area food drive.  We need help to collect food to help area families this holiday season.  Please bring any non-perishable food or personal items to Church or use the contact infomoration found here

Additionally, if you, or someone you know, could use a food basket this year, please contact the Church (click here for contact info).  We would love for all the food to be donated to families here in Union, as opposed to throughout the Cass County so please let us know if you are interested in receiving a little extra food for the holidays!

Help Control Union's Stray Cat Population

hua1hua3pedro_cat

Last month 7 of Union’s stray cats were taken to Hearts United for Animals Clinic in Auburn, NE for medical care using the proceeds from this summer’s Groom-a-thon fundraiser.  All cats were tested for contagious disease, and it was revealed that many of the cats were suffering from Feline Leukemia and Feline AIDS.  Both of these diseases are extremely contagious and easily spread throughout the rest of the cat population.  Additionally, the cats who contract the disease suffer from pain and a multitude of symptoms.  Unfortunately, 3 out of the 7 cats had to be euthanized as a result of the diseases.

In order to prevent the spread of these deadly diseases and control the stray pet population, local volunteers will continue trapping cats to receive testing, vaccinations, and sterilization.  The dates scheduled for the rest of the year are December 9th and December 30th.  If you are interested in helping trap the cats, donating money to treat more cats, or adopting a cat after it receives medical attention, please call Mindy @ 402-890-8287 or email editor@unionnebraska.com.

P.J. was spayed and vaccinated last month at HUA.  She was released back into the wild after receiving medical attention; however, she decided she did not want to leave our neighborhood.  She visits all the neighborhood houses on a daily basis!   P.J. would make an excellent pet (maybe even a Christmas present??).  Please contact Mindy @402-890-8287 or editor@unionnebraska if interested in adopting P.J.
