VILLAGE OF UNION
SPECIAL MEETING MINUTES
June 23, 2010
The Union Village Board met in special session on June 23, 2010. The meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m. at the ALA Hall. The Open Meeting Laws were displayed. On roll call: T. McClane, Chipman, and Kahland.
The Brown Bottle detailed their request for a sand volleyball court in Union park area. Ms. Brown wants the court to a host a small volleyball league of about 4 teams lasting approximately six weeks in the summers. The Brown Bottle is willing to do all the work and pay for the supplies and equipment. Budweiser will provide umbrellas for the tables and an official net. The area will be closed in with a fence and locked when not in use. Tables with umbrellas will be placed inside the fenced area. The proposed site is the area north of 1st Street and A St. to be close to the bar and restrooms. Trustee Chipman responded that the Board wants to support local businesses but he is not quite sure that a sand volleyball court in that area is in line with the village’s vision for the park. Budweiser advertisements in an area that the village is wanting to make a family gathering spot may not be acceptable. The Board suggested that the court be erected closer to the pavilion and concessions area of Union Parks, known as the Meredith/Hoback Park at B Street and Larue Street. This suggestion seemed to be acceptable to the Brown Bottle. Chipman motioned to allow the Brown Bottle to erect a sand volleyball court at Meredith/Hoback Park. 2nd by Kahland. By roll, Trustee votes as follows: T. McClane – Aye, Chipman – Aye, Kahland – Aye. Motion approved.
The Brown Bottle requested to hold a Street Dance on 1st Street between Main Street and A Street with a live band and alcoholic beverages on July 31, 2010 from 8pm to 1am with a rain date of August 7, 2010. Chipman motioned to approve the Street Dance. 2nd by Kahland. Trustee votes are as follows: T. McClane – Aye, J. McClane – Aye, Chipman – Aye, Kahland – Aye, and Brown- Aye. Motion approved.
The Brown Bottle requested to hold a Bar-Athalon on July 3, 2010 in the Union Parks providing recreation, dodge ball, ladder golf, 3-legged races, etc., selling concessions and alcoholic beverages. Chipman motioned to allow the Brown Bottle to hold a Bar-Althalon in the village parks area and to sell alcoholic beverages on July 3, 2010. 2nd by Kahland. Trustee votes are as follows: T. McClane – Aye, J. McClane – Aye, Chipman – Aye, Kahland – Aye, and Brown- Aye. Motion approved.
Chipman motioned to accept Brad VandeHoef’s EMT contract and allow chairman to sign the agreement. 2nd by Kahland. Trustee votes are as follows: T. McClane – Aye, J. McClane – Aye, Chipman – Aye, Kahland – Aye, and Brown- Aye. Motion approved.
